Context

Rolec Services is the UK’s leading manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) charging points, working with installers responsible for fitting and supporting EV charging products.

As Rolec expanded its digital offering, the business identified an opportunity to launch a new self-serve portal for installers - a single destination to support product implementation, documentation, and ongoing service needs. This marked a shift towards more scalable, digital-first operations.

The problem

Rolec had not historically embedded design into its product development process, with a development-led product culture and creating risk as the business scaled its digital services.

Product scalability risk: Without a design system or user-centred approach, the new self-serve portal risked becoming inconsistent, hard to maintain, and costly to evolve.
